Juban Parc Elementary students take part in STEM Day | Photo Gallery
Fourth-grade students build a cup tower during Juban Parc Elementary’s STEM Day on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022. In this project, students were assigned specific roles to build a tower that matches an example tower, an activity that requires a high level of collaboration and problem solving. Only one group member was allowed to actually see the example tower, so students are forced to focus on observation and communication skills.

After reading the book "How to Catch a Monster," the students discussed the problem in the story and in response, built a trap for a monster using given materials. A recording sheet was used for students to write about the process of building the trap.

Each group collaborated together to invent a board game for short or long vowels. Students determined how to organize their board game, as well as created the player pieces and the way the pieces moved. When completed, groups rotated to play the games their peers invented.

They placed their hands in a bucket of ice water for 15 seconds to see how the cold water feels and then created "insulation" using two Ziplock bags and shortening.
