Homemade boat races, scavenger hunts, goldfish races, and other activities hit the water on Saturday, April 29, for the annual Tickfaw River Regatta.

The day-long benefit, which started at Riverside Marina before moving across the river to Boopalu’s, served as a fundraiser for TARC (Teach, Assist, Reach and Connect), a Hammond-based organization that provides services for children and adults with special needs in the Florida parishes.

The mission of TARC is to provide opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to realize their full potential, and to become self-directed and contributing citizens, according to its website.

TARC is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

For this year's Tickfaw River Regatta, aquatic activities took place at Riverside Marina, where people cheered on around a dozen teams competing in two boat races. Later that evening, people went over to Boopalu’s to enjoy a concert from the Peyton Falgoust Band.
