WALKER – A Walker man remained in custody Friday at the Livingston Parish Detention Center on numerous charges in a case of alleged cruelty to a 71-year-old Walker woman, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Twenty-first Judicial District Court Judge Zoey Waguespack set bond at $100,000 on Christopher Gregus, 45, of 30020 Corby Circle, who allegedly inflicted physical harm and threatened the victim, according to Sheriff Jason Ard of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest Oct. 17 followed an investigation by LPSO detectives.

Gregus is a relative of the victim, Ard said.

Gregus also allegedly made withdrawals of more than $1,500 from her bank account without her permission. He is also believed to have taken her prescription medication without her permission.

Gregus was charged with one count each of simple battery, cruelty to the infirm, exploitation of the infirm and theft of medication.

The incidents occurred during a period between Aug. 1 and Oct. 16, Ard said.

The incidents took place after the victim’s caretaker – her daughter – died.

Gregus was married to the victim’s daughter and became the primary caregiver.
